John Richardson PDF Print E-mail

John Euston Richardson, 55, of Pomaria, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009.

Born on December 23, 1954 in Columbia, he was the son of the late George Harold and Margaret Jackson Richardson.

He was the owner and president of Richardson’s Heating & A.C., Inc. in Chapin. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the Church Council. He was the pitcher on the Zion/St. Paul softball team.

Surviving are his loving wife, Sherree Richardson; a son, Benjamin John Richardson of Pomaria; daughters, Jenny Richardson (Jeff) Fellers and Lori Beth Richardson of Pomaria; and beloved and doted upon grandchildren, Elyse and Banks Fellers.  He is also survived by his brother, Mark (Martha) Richardson of Pomaria; nephews Kirby Richardson, Scott Richardson, and niece Holly Richardson of Pomaria. Also surviving are his parents-in-law, Lewis Merrill and Rita Richardson of Pomaria; sister-in-law, Donna Kirkegard of Newberry; nieces, Ashley Sweatman and Mary Kirkegard of Newberry; and great-niece, Sophie Sweatman. He had two faithful canine companions, Quincy and Rasta.  Mr. Richardson was predeceased by an infant sister, Judy Agnes Richardson.

As Owner and President of Richardson's Heating and Air Conditioning, he was a respected member of this industry.  John was a friend to other heating and air conditioning contractors always willing to lend a helping hand in sharing his experience.  He was a Rheem Top Contractor. John Richardson was honored with the “Ring of Champions” and "Ambassador Award" from Epting Distributors.  He also achieved Silver Star Dealer status and was appointed to serve on the Silver Star Dealer Council with Epting.  He served as the President of the HVAC Association of Greater Columbia.  Her served as Chapter President for the South Carolina Association of Heating and Air Conditioning Contractors as well as serving on their Board of Directors.

John never met a stranger and was embraced by everyone he met.  He was an extraordinary individual who brought smiles and joy wherever he was. He was an avid University of South Carolina Gamecocks fan who experienced chill bumps every time 2001 played.  He enjoyed relaxing and playing golf.  He took pleasure in taking road trips in the family's camper to various locations including Maggie Valley, Pigeon Forge, and Myrtle Beach.  His memory will live on as we remember his sense of humor and jokes, especially his attempts to sing karaoke.  His favorite song to belt out was "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2010, at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Saturday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

Sherree and family,
There are no words to express my sorrow for you and your family. You, John and your family have meant so much to the Spires family for many, many years. In many ways we were part of the same family for a number of years, each of us striving towards a mutual goal with integrity and honesty. There is no doubt, you and John, as well as the rest of your family, far exceeded all expectations in all areas. I will cherish the memories with you all for years to come. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I pray for God to embrace you and your family in his loving arms in the future and show you the path of peace and understanding.
