Cynthia Duncan Franklin, 64, of Newberry, widow of Dennis Alvin Franklin, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born on December 5, 1947, Ms. Franklin was the daughter of the late Callie Ligon Duncan, Jr. and the late Margaret McCarty Duncan. She was a homemaker for 44 years. Ms. Franklin was a lifetime member of Epting Memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her daughters, Denise Reid and husband, Reggie of Newberry, Heather Banks and husband, Richard of Saluda, English Shealy and husband, Gaston of Concord, NC and Brooke Franklin of Lexington; six grandchildren, Ligon Sutton, Callie Reid, Gabrielle Shealy, Grier Shealy, Gracyn Shealy and Hunter Bass and one step-grandchild, Amanda Reid. Ms. was also survived by her loving poodle companion, Bella.

Ms. Franklin was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Dennis Alvin Franklin and her very special and loyal poodle companion of 11 years, Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home by the Rev. Barry Brown. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:30 am -10:45 am at the funeral home on Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to the Newberry County Humane Society, PO Box 485, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Richard Banks, Reggie Reid, Gaston Shealy and Ligon Sutton.

My maiden name was Alice Shealy. Cynthia and I went to school together starting right there in that little community Mollohon School next to the park. I am so sorry to hear about your lost and know that she is spending time with our Lord.

Denise and family, I send my love and prayers to you all at this time of your lives. The loss of your Mom is huge and it is going to take time to move forward. These days will be difficult but, know everyone is praying for you near and far. I have lots of happy memories being in your home when we where in high school. I have been blessed to know you and your Mom. I learned a great deal about myself for the better. She would want nothing but, happiness for you and the entire family. Life will never be the same but, being with Jesus is worth it all. Just know she is in heaven and that is where we all want to be when he calls us home. I love you.
