Lewis Edgar Summer, 73, of Newberry, widower of Bernice Bratcher Summer, died Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Providence Hospital.

Born on February 16, 1939 in Pomaria, he was the son of the late Louise Summer. He was formerly employed by Kaywood and was a paper carrier for The State Newspaper and the Newberry Observer. He was a graduate of Mid-Carolina High School and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Mr. Summer is survived by a number of cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at St. John's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Derald Edwards. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00- 7:30 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 622 Hope Station Road, Pomaria, SC 29126.

Lewis and his dearly departed wife Bernice was very good friends of my family. they lived in the same traylor park as my grandma&grandpa poag.they would take me to the state fair with them every year.i will miss him and bernice very much. they were great friends.my prayers are with the family.

Mr. Lewis was a very kind man! He and his wife would take my sister, brother and me fishing when we were kids. Thanks for the memories Mr. Lewis!

Mr. Summer was a very sweet and gentle man and his prescence will be missed at Newberry County Council on Aging Senior Center.
