James Larry Harrelson, 77, of Prosperity, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at Palmetto Health Richland.
Born on February 17, 1935, in Joanna, he was a son of the late James R. Harrelson and Alyce Yarbrough Periona. He served in the S.C. National Guard and retired in 1993 after 40 years from Dupont SRP. Mr. Harrelson was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church and the Chapin Wood Carving Club. His hobbies included wood carving, gardening, fishing, hunting, reading and a love of poetry.
Mr. Harrelson is survived by his wife, Helen L. Harrelson; sons, Jacob W. (Ethel) Walker of Aiken, Steven L. Harrelson of Signal Mtn, TN and James Bradley (Sherrie) Harrelson of Aiken; a daughter, Marlesia A. Keenan of Aiken; a sister, Jackie H. Kesler of Newberry; grandchildren, Dana Walker, Brandie Thompson, Carly McClellan, Stephanie Harrelson, Rachel Harrelson and Aaron Harrelson and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Annie R. Harrelson and brothers, Alfred R. Harrelson and Donald L. Harrelson.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Macedonia Lutheran Church by the Rev. Randall Derrick. Interment will be in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Macedonia Lutheran Church Youth Building Fund, 49 Macedonia Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Harrelson's passing. I remember so many fun times my family had at your lake house when I was growing up. Mr. Harrelson was always so kind and patient with us kids. He never seemed to tire of teaching us something such as fishing. He was always ready with a joke too. He was a nice man and my family will truly miss him.
