Brenda, Dustin, and Ashley,
I was very sorry to hear of James' recent death! I have so many fond memories of James (his excellent and compassionate work at Whitaker Funeral Home, his membership and service at Redeemer Lutheran Church in various capacities, and playing church softball with him many years ago.) Although I have been away from Newberry for 26 years, I have never forgotten James and the fine man that he was and his service to so many organiztions in Newberry. May God bless and comfort all of you at this time of loss and grief!
Sincerely,
James G. Long

Dear Brenda and family,
I was so sorry to hear about James. I was actually riding by your house the other day and wondered how he was doing. A few minutes later I heard that he had passed. I remember his kindness when Michael died. My mother-in-law, Mary Henderson, also much appreciated James for helping her with J.W. I know she called James late one night when J.W. had fallen and he graciously came to the house and helped her get him up. He was a kind man and will be missed in our community.
Best regards, Kendyl Griffith

Dearest Brenda, Dustin, Ashley and Family, We are so very sorry to learn of James Olin's passing. He has been an inspiration to all of us over these many years. We know he is singing with the Angels with his awesome smile and his ability to always make you feel important to him. What a blessing he was to his public service to Newberry County and to his gracious, loving kindness shared with so many bereaved families over more than forty years. How comforting and supporting he was to all of us in our greatest hours of need. We are so sorry that we cannot be there with you as we are with our children, but we want all of you to know how very much we love and respect each one of you. Please do not hesitate to call on us if we can ever help any of you. We are very blessed to have all of you (Smith Family) in our lives and you are always in our hearts and prayers. Safely Home
by Unknown

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! but Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still;
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's Will.

There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth--
You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!

Praying that you'll sense God’s presence
In this time of grief
And feel God’s love surrounding you
And know His inner peace
For God cares so much for you
And wipes each tear you cry,
You never need to feel alone
For He’ll never leave your side.

I am so sorry to hear about James. He was a wonderful mentor to me when I began my journey as a 15 year old into the funeral industry more than 20 years ago. There wasn't a place we would go that he wasn't known and loved. He was definately "service above self." He will be missed as he was admired and loved by the many families he served and the friends he so easily made. God has finally taken him home where I know his mother was there to greet him. I pray God will bless and hold you close through this difficult time.
