Leland Eugene “Gene” Huffstetler, 74, of Chapin, died Friday, December 27, 2013, at his residence.

Born on December 31, 1938, in Chapin, he was a son of the late Elbert Leslie and Leila Elizabeth Wessinger Huffstetler. He served in the S.C. National Guard, was a retired carpenter from Huffstetler Builders and was a member St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Shelva Wood Huffstetler; a son, Mike Huffstetler of Chapin; a daughter, Lesa (Tim) Chapman of Chapin; a brother, Clyde (Dot) Huffstetler of Chapin; grandchildren, R.C. (Samantha) Severance, Catelyn Huffstetler, Shawna Huffstetler and David Chapman; great-granddaughter, Anna Belle Severance; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his step-mother, Nancy Pearl Amick Huffstetler, son, David Huffstetler, sisters, Frieda Shealy, Faye Rose and Lila Cromer and a brother, Bernard Huffstetler.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 30, 2013, at St. Peter Lutheran Church by the Rev. David Tholstrup. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1741, Greenwood, SC 29648, St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 900 Dreher Island Road, Chapin, SC 29036 or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, New York, NY 10004.

Active pallbearers will be John Shealy, Danny Shealy, Homer Rose, Mark Rose, Tim Huffstetler, Neil Huffstetler, Duane Huffstetler, Alan Huffstetler and Charlie Cromer.
