Doris Lynne Gunter Huggins Fazio, 77, passed away on January 9, 2016, at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina. She was the wife of Louis P. Fazio of Columbia, South Carolina. They shared 15 wonderful years together.

Born in Aiken, South Carolina, Doris was the daughter of the Reverend Milton Thomas Gunter and Alene Entwistle Gunter. She was a graduate of Pamplico High School in Pamplico, South Carolina, and attended Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina. Doris worked through the years at several state government agencies, Thackston Osborne Supply Company and Ellett Brothers. She was a partner with her brother, Robert M. Gunter, at Indo-Pacific Trading Company at Columbiana Centre and they later formed Midlands Antique Mart in Little Mountain, South Carolina. After her retirement, Doris continued to enjoy working at Little Mountain Unlimited, dealing in antiques and collectibles with her husband, Lou, and spoiling her beloved four-legged companion, Lily.

Doris was a member of Pomaria Lutheran Church in Pomaria, South Carolina, where she served faithfully in many different capacities for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge and attending estate and yard sales. She also liked entertaining her family and many friends and was an outstanding cook. Doris was quite simply the bright jewel of her family. She will especially be remembered as a loving wife and companion to Lou, mother to John S. Huggins, Jr. of Ridgeville, South Carolina, and Nancy Huggins Wessinger of Prescott Valley, Arizona, and step-mother to Suzanne Fazio of Jacksonville, Florida.

Doris is survived by her husband Lou; son John (Rhonda); daughter Nancy (Mark); step-daughter Suzanne (Nan Hucker); sister Sheryl Gunter Bingham (Chuck); brother Robert (Sutji); grandsons Nathan Huggins and Cory and Matthew Wessinger; granddaughters Leanna Huggins and Alyssa and Kaylyn Wessinger; great-grandsons Isaac Wessinger and Connor Fitzgerald; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband John Summer Huggins, Sr. and sister Carol Jean Gunter Gibbs.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Pomaria Lutheran Church, with private interment at the family cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home in Newberry, South Carolina.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Pomaria Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society and Pawmetto Lifeline animal rescue organization (www.pawmettolifeline.org or 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia, South Carolina 29212).

I was sorry to learn of Doris' death. She and John, Sr. were members of the same church in Columbia as were my husband and I. Doris and I remained friends for a long time after they moved to Pomaria. Also their son and my daughter were classmates and friends when they lived in Columbia. The entire family has my deepest sympathy.

Dear Huggins & Fazio Family,
I am so very sorry for your loss of Doris. May the prayers of others help to bring you strength, comfort and courage each day! Something that has personally helped me cope with the loss of a loved one is at Isaiah 25:8, God promises to “swallow up death forever” and “will wipe away the tears from all faces”, just like a loving parent. May the hope God gives bring you comfort too! With deep sorrow!
