Calvin Backman Smith, 63, of Newberry, died Monday, January 28, 2019 at Prisma Health Heart Richland.
Born on June 18, 1955 in Newberry, he was a son of Annie Irene Wicker Smith and the late Backman Leroy Smith. He worked for Blanchard Equipment for many years and later worked at ISE America. Mr. Smith was a member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church.
He is survived in addition to his mother, Irene Smith by his wife, Sandra L. Smith; daughters, Shelly Lynn Smith (Colton Sons) of Lexington, Laurel Smith Tahon (Dennis) and Annie Smith Amick (Ben) both of Newberry; sisters, Doris Worthy and Elizabeth Farr (Wayne) both of Newberry; brothers, A.P. Smith (Tina), Roger Dean Smith, Virgil Smith (Susan) all of Newberry and grandchildren, Victoria Worthy, Luther Worthy, Kate Tahon and Sam Tahon.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, January 31, 2019 at St. Philip's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Philip's Lutheran Church, 2461 St. Philip's Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Brady Livingston, Ryan Livingston, Brunson Jordan, Brandon Thompson, Zachary Thomspon, Brandon Smith, Nathan Smith and Gerald Farr.
