Geraldine Hess, 76, of Saluda, died Friday, February 7, 2020 at Providence Hospital.

Born on June 17, 1943, in Swords Creek, VA, she was the daughter of the late Hobert and Tina Hess. She was the owner of Hess Grocer in both Raven and Drill, VA. Geraldine also enjoyed being a loving wife to her husband, Harold, for 55 years and a loving mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family going to the lake for picnics. Geraldine also enjoyed supporting her grandchildren in their life events. Cooking for her family and traveling were her favorite pastimes.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Hess; daughters, Sherry (Joe) Deskins, Greta (Chester) Dye, Angela (Michael) Alvarez; a son, Andra Hess; grandchildren, Ericka (Keith) Berry, Dakota Dye, Frankie Alvarez, Chelsea Alvarez, Jordan Alvarez and Lexi Hess; a great-grandson, Owen Berry; siblings, Billy Hess, Shirley Hess, Shelby Lowe, Sue Hess and Ruby Dye. She was predeceased by siblings, Winston Hess, Bobby Hess, Jimmy Hess, Harold Hess, Peggy Perkins, Annie Hess and Nora Mae Dye.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Mike Townsend. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Joe Deskins, Keith Berry, Chester Dye, Dillon Welch, Michael Alvarez and Frankie Alvarez.

Harold and Andra, sorry to hear of Geraldine’s passing. I know she will be missed.Andra, when a mom passes there will be a void for a long time. But your faith in God will get you through.
