Martha Alewine “BaBa” Watts, 100, of Newberry, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, died Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on September 9, 1919 in Silverstreet, she was a daughter of the late James Marion and Nannie Blair Alewine. She was a retired seamstress having retired in 1984 after 48 years of work. She retired from Damon International. Ms. Watts was a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church and the WELCA Circle II. Her life revolved around always putting others first especially her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy Ann (Bill) Floyd of Newberry; a sister, Julia Wessinger of Whitmire; grandchildren, Beverly (Gregg) Summer, Faye Woodward and Troy Floyd; great-grandchildren, Trista (Judd) Baird, Alex (Brandi) Summer, Adam (Rhyan) Summer, Brandon Woodward and Dustin Floyd; great-great-grandchildren, Judson Baird, Jonas Baird, Jensen Baird and Emerson Summer and son-in-law, Leland (Patsy) Epting. Ms. Watts was predeceased by a daughter, Janice Epting, siblings, Louise Goggans, Nancy Longshore and James Marion “Buddy” Alewine, Jr., a grandson, Travis Floyd and a great-granddaughter, Adrienne Woodward.

A private family graveside service will be held at Silverstreet Lutheran Church Cemetery by the Rev. Harry Crout. Memorials may be made to Silverstreet Lutheran Church, 120 Long Street, Silverstreet, SC 29145.

Due to the events of the coronovirus, large gatherings are discouraged, but the family appreciates the love and support from everyone and realizes that though you may not be able to be present in person your thoughts are still with them.
