Elinor Ruth James Hoffman, 97, of Newberry, widow of Stanley Hoffman, died Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at the Heritage at Lowman.

Born on August 19, 1922 in Royston, GA, she was a daughter of the late Hayden Welborn and Ossie Lee James James. Mrs. Hoffman was a retired beautician and a member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Newberry. She was an active participant at the Newberry Council on Aging until her recent health issues.

She is survived by daughters, Alexis (Brenda) Z. Keyne and husband, David of Australia and Maxine Pulliam Jennings of Newberry; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hoffman was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Louise Pulliam, four sisters and a brother.

Memorials may be made to the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Newberry, 1701 Main Street, Newberry, SC 29108.

Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced later once restrictions are lifted in regard to the Coronavirus pandemic.

So sorry to learn of Elinors death. She loved my husband and was a great help to him in his years of ministry at First Congregational. We loved to stop in Newberry to see her our way north. She certainly was one of a kind. Loved her humor and energy in all her endeavors. Her spirit was contagious.

Elinor was such a vibrant person and always a Southern lady. I knew her from her church in Ocala, Florida. I especially remember a luncheon at her home. Always the hostess, she was exuberant and so hospitable. She truly loved life. I will miss her and wish peace and good memories of her for her family.
