Ola Mae “Peggy” Burton Cook, 98, of Prosperity, widow of Harold B. Cook, died Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at her residence.

Born on May 22, 1922 in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Clyde and Maude Smith Burton. Mrs. Cook was a co-owner of Cook Brother's Farm. She was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church where she was involved with the Francis Asbury Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women and the Joy Group. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and the Newberry Roadrunners. Mrs. Cook had served on the Human Rights Committee for the Newberry County Disabilities and Special Needs Board. She was an advocate for persons with special needs and their families from the time of her sons birth throughout the remainder of her life.

She is survived by a daughter, Julia Cook (Richard) Easterlin of Prosperity; brothers, Carl Burton of Clinton, Charles Burton of California and Jerry Burton of Chapin; grandchildren, Bramlett Drew, Luke Easterlin and Matthew Easterlin and his fiancée, Lucy Floyd and great-grandchildren, Angela McDuffie, Terra Easterlin, Wyatt Drew, Emma Jane Drew and Millie Drew. She was predeceased by a son, Tommy Cook, a great-grandchild, Avery Bramlett Drew and sisters, Velma Smith, Ruby Nell Amick, Corrine Berley and Bonnie Cook.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Wightman United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ben Barnett and the Rev. Ken Charles for all who feel comfortable participating in an indoor worship service. The committal service will be held at 1:45 pm at Newberry Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Wightman United Methodist Church, PO Box 376, Prosperity, SC 29217 or to the Ruth Pugh Foundation, PO Box 856, Newberry, SC 29108. Due to COVID 19 everyone is reminded of the social distancing requirements and masks are strongly encouraged.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Michael Bernardo and his staff, the staff of MSA Home Health and Hospice and special friends and care givers, McKeva Kinard-Shelton and Mary Harmon.
