Jimmy Dennis, 76, of Newberry, died Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Self Regional Hospital.

Born on June 9, 1944, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Herman and Reba Shealy Dennis. Mr. Dennis was retired from Gary Russ Chevrolet and was presently working part-time with Stokes Trainor Chevrolet. He was a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church where he had served as a deacon.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Johnston Dennis; sons, David (Tammy) Dennis and Alain (Janice) Dennis both of Newberry and Dale (Alicia) Dennis of Irmo; a daughter, Deah (Mark) Roberts of Newberry; a sister, Ann (Richard) DeHart of Newberry; a brother, Marshall (Dot) Dennis of South Congaree; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, February 11, 2021, at Smyrna Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dan Ratchford. Those attending are asked to remain in their cars and listen by radio at 87.9 FM. Following the service the family will have a drive-by visitation. Memorials may be made to Smyrna Presbyterian Church, 32 Smyrna Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Shawn Roberts, Cade Roberts, Kemper Dennis, Brendan Roberts, Grayson Dennis and Jonathan Dennis.

I had the pleasure of working with Jimmy for a few years at Gary Russ and would talk to him at Stokes Trainor when I came by there on my current job. Jimmy was such a kind person and hard worker and I always enjoyed talking with him. I will keep his family and friends in my prayers during this difficult time.

Mary Ann and Family we were saddened to hear just a few minutes ago about the death of Jimmy! We are remembering you in our prayers and will continue to as life goes on adjusting to Jimmy’s absence! From school days as long as we had an acquaintance with him we never knew a more Godly man or friend to his family and fellowman! May God be with you and bless you all!
