Arvid Ray Lominick, 80, of Whitmire, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

He was born on October 25, 1929 in Pomaria to the late Arvid Backman and Julia Ringer Lominick. Mr. Lominick served in the S.C. National Guard and was retired after 45 years from J. P. Stevens. He was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church where he was a former member of the church council and the building committee. Mr. Lominick was also a member of the Whitmire Masonic Lodge # 265 and the Whitmire Rescue and Fire Departments. He worked and was a member of the Whitmire Golf Club.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Doris Shealy Lominick; a son, Alvin Ray (Geri M.) Lominick of Greenwood; daughters, Ginny L. (Wayne) Boland of Little Mountain and Lynne Hunnicutt of Whitmire; a brother-in-law, Harold E. Gilliam of Whitmire; three granddaughters, Leslie, Alyson and Shannon Lominick all of Greenwood and a great-grandson, Julius Devon Ouzts and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Herman Lominick and a sister, Peggy L. Gilliam.

Graveside services with Masonic Rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. John Weaver. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 – 2:45 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church, PO Box 265, Whitmire, SC 29178.

MR. RAY WAS A JOY TO TAKE CARE OF AT NCMH. HE ALWAYS SMILED AT US WHEN WE ENTERED THE ROOM. HE WAS ALWAYS SO KIND AND APPRECIATIVE OF HIS CARE. HE WILL BE MISSED.
