Joe William Lee Nelson, Sr., 55, of Newberry, widower of Jewell Sharon Hamby Nelson, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at his residence.

Born on September 22, 1954, in Gastonia, NC, he was a son of the late Lee Nelson and Innie Mae Sherfield Nelson Edgins. He was reared by Paul and Bertha Sherfield Edgins. He was retired from Satterwhite Farms.

He survived by his sons, Lewis (Chrisy) Nelson, Shannon Hamby, Joe Nelson, Eric Edgins; daughters, Linda Gail Nelson, Toby Nelson, Leslie Dunaway; step-daughter, Angie Byrd; sisters, Margie Stover, Carol Moss and Joyce Harvey; brothers, Mike Edgins and Clyde Edgins; his girlfriend, Sherry Robbs; 7 grandchildren and a special friend, Skettleman.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will follow the service.
