Alberta Wicker Moates, 74, of Pomaria, died Monday, March 3, 2014, at Intermedical Hospital of SC at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center.

Born on July 24, 1939, in Pomaria, she was the daughter of the late Nolan Clifford and Mary Ida Graham Wicker. She was retired from the Newberry County School Food Service as cafeteria manager of Mid Carolina High School after 39 years of service. Mrs. Moates was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was also a member of WELCA, a former Luther League Advisor and former Sunday School teacher.

She is survived by her husband, Wilford Moates; daughters, Phyllis (Henry) Jackson and Connie (Keith) Pearson both of Pomaria; grandchildren, Shanna (Andy) Gallman, Jesse Pearson and Brandi Pearson; great-grandchildren, Taryn Gallman, Brooks Gallman, Katelyn Pearson, Tyler Pearson and Noah Moates.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, March 6, 2014, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Brent Nichols. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00- 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of Keith and Connie Pearson, 148 Pig Trail Lane, Pomaria. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 2496 SC Highway 773, Pomaria, SC 29126.

Active pallbearers will be Josh Corley, Andy Gallman, Joey Gallman, Ethan Hancock, Jesse Pearson, and Danny Richardson.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Newberry Wound Center, Dr. Mark Davis, Dr. Thomas Bradberry, Dr. Alan Paysinger and the staff of Newberry Internal Medicine, the staff of Intermedical Hospital at Baptist, Stephanie McDuffie, members of St. Paul Lutheran Church Council and the staff of Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Alberta was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who touched so many lives with her smiles and kindness.
