Alfred F. West, 85, of Prosperity, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Lexington Medical Center Extended Care.

Born on September 20, 1924, in Saluda, he was a son of the late Horace Bernad and Ethel Wessinger West. He was a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran. Mr. West was a machinist who worked for 17 years in the Panama Canal and was a member of Corinth Lutheran Church. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, the Saluda Masonic Lodge # 103 and the Panama Canal Society.

Surviving are his wife, Mattie Yarbrough West; sons, Ben (Carol) West of Suwannee, FL, Mike (Barbara) West of Sumter and Guy (Hilda) West of Lexington; step-daughtes, Madeline Jefferson and Cheryl McCord; a brother, David West of Floral City, FL; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Mr. West was predeceased by his first wife, Norma Wells West, a son, Wayne West, sisters, Clara Mae Speight and Ray Mason, and a brother, J. B. West.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Corinth Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Guy West in Lexington and they will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Corinth Lutheran Church, 3178 Denny Highway, Prosperity, SC 29127.
