Belton Wright Dennis, 77, of Newberry, died Monday, March 30, 2015, at his residence.

Born on September 30, 1937, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Harry Wright and Alousia Belle Long Dennis. Mr. Dennis served in the S.C. National Guard and was retired from Monsanto of Greenwood. He was a cattle farmer and a founding member of the Big Creek Gospel Quartet. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church where he was involved with the Adult Sunday School Class. Mr. Dennis was a member of the Hartford Community Center and the Mid Carolina Twirlers where he was a caller for over twenty-five years.

He is survived by his wife, Miriam Dawkins Dennis; daughters, Donna Marie Dennis and Randy Oliver of Chapin and Lynette Dennis (Keith) Ballington of West Columbia; a sister, Carolyn Dennis Findley of Murfreesboro, TN. He was predeceased by a brother, Henry “Bunny” Dennis.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 pm Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jason Schafer. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church Sign Fund, 4056 St. Luke's Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127 or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1741, Greenwood, SC 29648.

Active pallbearers will be Joe Kunkle, Gordon Minick, Jerry Shealy, Gene Boland, Clyde Lester and Richard Dennis.
