Bennette L. "Shorty" Waites

Bennette Livingston “Shorty” Waites, 75, of Newberry, died Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on March 2, 1941, in Pomaria, he was a son of the late Edgar B. and Annie Mae Livingston Waites. He served in the S.C. National Guard, was a member of Enoree Baptist Church and was retired from Carter Trucking of Ninety Six.

Mr. Waites is survived by his wife, Linda Stone Waites; sons, Wade B. (Nancy) Waites of Pomaria, Kurt E. Waites of Columbia, Todd F. Waites of Newberry and Brad B. Waites of Punxsutawney, PA; sisters, Reba Lake of Newberry, Barbara (Harold) Smith and Kathie (Caroll) Leitzsey both of Pomaria; brother, Ted (Lallie) Waites of Pomaria; grandchildren, Dillon Waites, Wyatt Waites and Leigh Waites and a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Margaret Long, Curtis Waites, Kenneth Waites and Willie Waites.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 20, 2016 at Enoree Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Enoree Baptist Church, c/o Reba Lake, 5101 Jollystreet Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Stacey Waites, Mike Horne, Ronnie Smith, Dean Long, Randall Waites and William Lever.
