Betty J. Wicker, 76, of Newberry, passed into the eternal presence of our Lord on Monday, April 28, 2014.

Born on October 5, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Vincent L. and Helen R. Mills. Ms. Wicker was a homemaker and will be best remembered in her unique way of making everyone smile. Betty was a sweet and loving person who's heart was loving and generous to everyone During her early years she was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church and in recent years was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. Betty loved the Lord immensely.

She is survived by a daughter, Terry (Frank) Gearhart of Chapin; a son, Danny (Cheryl) Metts of Little Mountain; sisters, Margaret Wicker and Janette Vaughn both of Prosperity, Vanessa Boozer of Newberry, and Judy Epting of Lexington who unselfishly stayed in the home with Betty until the end; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, a special niece, Tammy (Marty) Waters of Leesville; devoted sisters of love, Shirley Mitchell and Faye Morris and her precious four legged companion, B.J. She was predeceased by a son, Wyman L. Metts, brothers, L.V. Mills, David Mills, twin brothers, Vernon “Buddy” Mills and Vincent Mills and her loving companion of 34 years Otis Moates.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Eddie Bledsoe. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Colie Aaron Wicker in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, PO Box 1106, Newberry, SC 29108 or to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2496 SC Highway 773, Pomaria, SC 29126.
