Betty Jewel Hazel, 81, of Little Mountain, went peacefully to be at the side of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at her home.
Born on January 16, 1936, in Mount Sterling, AL to the late Robert P. and Elizabeth Morgan Mills. Mrs. Hazel had retired from the Country Clean Cleaners in Chapin and was a member of Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and worked hand in hand with her husband in ministry at various churches in South Carolina, Mississippi and Florida. She was an ordained minister who loved working with children and music. She always had a contagious smile and spread her joy and love for Jesus everywhere she went. She was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished her family
She is survived by her husband, Michael Hazel; sons, David (Lourdes) Simmons of Eagle River, AK and Micah (Shannon) van Duijvendijk of Pascagoula, MS; a daughter, Rhonda (Terry) Crane of Hurley, MS and grandchildren, Logan Crane, Gavin Crane, Zachary Simmons, Jonah van Duijvendijk and Jewel van Duijvendijk. Mrs. Hazel was predeceased by a husband, Gerard “Jerry” van Dujvendijk, an infant daughter, Carol Diane Simmons and a brother, Robert T. “Sonny” Mills.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church, Newberry, by the Rev. Charlie Clinton. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Funeral services with burial in Griffin Cemetery in Moss Point, MS will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Holder-Wells Funeral Home Chapel of Moss Point, MS by the Rev. Jerry Goff. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church, PO Box 444, Newberry, SC 29108.
