Betty Jernigan

Betty Hartman Jernigan, 82, widow of William Earl Jernigan, died Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on December 19, 1938 in Prosperity, she was the daughter of the late James Leslie and Cleo Lou Bowers Hartman. Mrs. Jernigan worked in banking for many years and retired from Bank of America. She later worked for and retired from Wal-Mart in Newberry. She attended Davar Chaim. She was a loving and caring person. She helped many people and would often bring people into her home that were in need. She loved her family and especially her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, William Earl “Bill” Jernigan, Jr. and wife, Lynn of Roanoke, VA; a daughter, Sharon Jernigan McClanahan and husband, Robert of Whitmire; grandchildren, William Christopher Jernigan and wife, Marlena, Patrick Ryan Jernigan, Michael Montjoy and wife, Brittany, Joseph Austin McClanahan and wife, Kellie; and Daniel Aaron McClanahan; great-grandchildren, Parker, William, and Kaulder.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 30, 2021 in the Nazareth Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lexington. The family will receive friends following the service.
