Betty Claire Koon Shealy, widow of Virgil Ellis Shealy, died Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Saluda County and was the daughter of the late James L. Koon, Sr. and Betty Agnes Hipp Koon. Mrs. Shealy was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, the Faye and J. Hilton Roof Circle of the WELA, and the Adult II Sunday School Class. She also served as treasurer of the St. Luke's WELCA Circles for several years, taught the kindergarten Sunday School Class for a number of years, and was an advisor of the St. Luke's Immediate Group for a couple of years. She was retired from the Summer Insurance Agency.

Mrs. Shealy is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Bobby and Dallas Shealy and Tim and Donna Shealy; grandchildren, Collin Shealy and his wife Kelli of Newberry and Kelli Shealy of Simpsonville; a sister, Alice Faye Bedenbaugh Shealy and a Godchild, Amanda C. Ringer. Mrs. Shealy is preceded in death by brothers, Clarence Robert Koon and James Lee Koon, Jr. and a sister, Jeanette K. Hamm.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, May 29, 2016, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jason Schafer. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 3:30 pm at the church on Sunday. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 4056 St. Luke's Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127.

Active pallbearers will be Todd Bedenbaugh, Shea Bedenbaugh, Bruce Connelly, Randy Koon, Billy McDonald, Dale Shealy, Barry Koon, Terry Koon and Derron Shealy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Members of the St. Luke's Adult II Sunday School Class, the Faye and J.Hilton Roof Circle, Martha Dominick, Janie and Junior Harrington, Dorothy Connelly, Betty Bundrick, Peggy Bedenbaugh, Linda Hiller, Willene Shealy, Ernie Shealy, Joye Hawkins, Marvin L. Brown, Mary Dove Nichols, Miriam Dennis and Carolyn Minick.

The family of Betty Shealy offers their appreciation for the love and compassion being expressed to them during their bereavement.
