Betty Page

d. September 14, 2012

Betty Louise Shealy Page, 82, of Little Mountain, widow of John Love Page, died Friday, September 14, 2012, at her residence.

Born on December 17, 1929, at Red Knoll, she was the daughter of the late Lonie C. “Pete” and Marie Koon Shealy. She was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and the first woman to serve on the Little Mountain Town Council. A graduate of Little Mountain School, Betty was a star basketball player and enjoyed a career spanning more than 40 years in floral design, including managing the Winn-Dixie floral department in Chapin, where the community grew to know and love her. Upon retiring, she opened her own successful floral business, Betty’s Best, in Little Mountain, at the age of 78. A feature article about Betty from a 1977 edition of the Chapin Times quoted her as saying “I’ve never seen a hopeless plant or person,” a legacy for which she will always be known.

She is survived by daughters, Dianna Page (Jerry) Pelfrey of Little Mountain and Ninamarie Page of Hickory Tavern; a son, John Edward Page of Little Mountain; a sister, Wanda Shealy of Little Mountain; a daughter-in-law, Shelley Page; grandchildren, John Still, Hannah Still Terpack, Lindsey Page, Cody Page and Kyle Page as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Page was predeceased by a son, Joel Shealy Page, a sister, Rachael Counts and brothers, Lonie Cornelius “Jack” Shealy and Bob Shealy.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, September 17, 2012, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Fred Suhr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Kyle Page MSKP Foundation, PO Box 398, Little Mountain, SC 29075.
