Betty S. Mills

Mrs. Betty Streets Mills of Newberry entered into rest at White Oak Manor on Friday, December 6, 2013. Born in Elkins, West Virginia on February 16, 1921, Betty moved to Newberry after her marriage to R. L. Mills who predeceased her.

She was also predeceased by a son, Gerald L. Mills; a daughter, Melinda F. Watts and a grandson, Chris A. Tante.

Family members include sister Beatrice Morgan (Bill), daughters Patricia M. Tante (Richard) and Janis E. Ruff; grandchildren, Valerie E. Tante, Gary Rowe, Greta Piester, David Franklin and Jason Franklin; great-grandchildren, Gaby Gumus, Meagan Tante, Shannon Aldridge, Danial Piester and Spencer Franklin; niece Ginny Pearcy (Bob); nephew Mike Morgan (Judy) and son-in-law Otis Watts.

Betty became a Carolina girl during her many years in Newberry and was the rock around which our family revolved. R. L.’s mother, Nora Wood Mills Price, taught her to cook in the southern way and she hosted all holiday and birthday dinners, turning out memorable meals from her small kitchen. She held us all close and we will miss her.

A funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm Sunday, December 8, 2013, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Private burial will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Newberry Council on Aging, 1300 Hunt Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
