Betty Roberta Lide Walters, 87, of Newberry, widow of Clement N. Walters, died Saturday, December 17, 2016, at Springfield Place.

Born on November 10, 1929, in Cheraw, she was a daughter of the late Thomas E. and Anna Rosa Nell Quick Lide. She was a graduate of North Charleston High School and received her BS in Piano from Winthrop College. She received her Masters in Education in Early Childhood from the University of South Carolina. As a child Mrs. Walters was a music student of Vernon Weston of Charleston and in her adulthood likewise taught many piano students. She was a former pianist at Millbrook Baptist Church in Aiken and taught kindergarten in Aiken County for a number of years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Newberry. Mrs. Walters loved taking arts and crafts classes at John C. Campbell Folk School of Brasstown, NC.

She is survived by daughters, Joan Walters Zoellner of Newberry and Dianne Walters (David) Asbill of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Elizabeth Lide Barry of Columbia; brothers, Dr. Thomas E. Lide, Jr. of Greenville and Ray Kenneth Lide of N. Charleston; grandchildren, Jennifer (Zach) Marshall, Christina Leigh Asbill and Jonathan Blake Asbill and his fiance, Sara Costelloe and a great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Asbill.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Dr. Albert Allen.
