Vones “Billy” Hunter Shealy, 92, of Prosperity, widower of Nancy Livingston Shealy, died Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
Born on August 20, 1927 in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Andrew Killian and Susie Bedenbaugh Shealy. He served in the U.S. Army, the Merchant Marines, the S.C. National Guard. Mr. Shealy retired from Joanna Cotton Mills. He was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church where he was involved with the Swingers. He was an active participate of the Prosperity Drug Store Coffee Club.
He is survived by daughters, Sue (Calvin) Suber and Rita (Tommy) Cumalander both of Prosperity; grandchildren, Kay Dendy, Haylee (Curt) Mitchell and Dr. Ashley (Jacob) Carter; great-grandchildrne, Payton Mitchell, Campbell Mitchell, Brodie Carter and Baylee Carter and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Sanders and Judy Hook. Mr. Shealy was predeceased by a daughter, Gail Shealy and brothers, Curtis Shealy, Julian Shealy, Colie Shealy and L.D. Shealy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church by the Rev. Randy Derrick and Rev. Jason Schafer. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2336 Mt. Pilgrim Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127. Everyone is reminded of COVID 19 social distancing requirements and masks are strongly encouraged.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Shealy, Phil Shealy, Clint Shealy, Artie Livingston, Mike Ruff and Ruben Mayer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Patti and Randy Suber, Sandra and Stanley Sheeley, Trudy and Ned Brewer, Corey Jones, Dr. Oscar Lovelace, Dr. Spencer Lovelace and members of the Prosperity Drug Store Coffee Club.
