Blanche Felker

Blanche Dennis Felker, 93, of Newberry, widow of John William Felker died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Presbyterian Home in Clinton.

Born on August 26, 1915 in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Adger Thompson and Leila Floyd Dennis. Mrs. Felker was a retired registered nurse and radiologist and was head of the lab and X-ray departments at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. She was a life long member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and Elder having served two terms as moderator of the Session. She was a member of the Aveleigh Presbyterian Women and received an honorary life membership. Mrs. Felker was a member of the S.C. Society of Radiologist and was a member of the Newberry Town and Country Garden Club.

Surviving is her son, John L. Felker of Spring Valley, CA; daughters, Adgie (Joe) Chappell of Newberry and Ernestine (Thomas) Chaplin of Lexington; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by daughters, Mary Helen Slice and Ellie Halfacre and brothers, Floyd Dennis and Woodrow Dennis.

Gravesides services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2009 at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Dr. Mitch VanMetre. Visitation will follow the service at the Newberry Memorial Gardens Family Room. Memorials may be made to Aveleigh Presbyterian Church, 1211 Calhoun Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the American Cancer Society, 181 Tailers Trail, Leesville, SC 29070.
