Earl Britton Worthy, Sr., 68, of Prosperity, died Monday, June 2, 2014 at the home of his daughter.
Born on April 10, 1946 in Newberry, he was the son of the late Early and Ethel Arrowood Worthy. He served in the S.C. National Guard, was a former Newberry County Sheriff Deputy and was retired from the Newberry County Emergency Services as a paramedic. He was a member of West End Baptist, a Mason and a former member of the Prosperity Rescue Squad and Prosperity Fire Department.
Mr. Worthy is survived by a son, Earl Britton (Kristy) Worthy, Jr. of Newberry; a daughter, Pamela Worthy (Chad) Brown of Newberry; step-daughter, Bridgett (Jason) Derrick; sisters, Jo Ellen Turner of Prosperity, Doreen Willingham of Newberry, Judy Corley of Whitmire and Joyce (Bill) Brown of Newberry; grandchildren, Kayla M. Koon, Jarrett Worthy, Madelyn Worthy and Ryan Brown; 2 step grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Lynnette A. Worthy.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, June 6, 2014, at West End Baptist Church by the Rev. Josh Parson and Rev. Darrel Wilbanks. Burial will follow in Whitmire Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Newberry County Rescue Squad Stations 17 or 19.
Active pallbearers will be B.J. Brown, William Brown, Robert Dale Turner, Heath Turner, Dendy Willingham, Jr., William “Bubba” Willingham, Samuel Willingham, Michael Brandon, Scott Koon and Bobby Reynolds.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Mills, Jerry Cohen, Ezell Hancock, Kelley Carlton, Jason Joiner and members of the Newberry EMS and Rescue Squads.
