Camille Dixon

Peggy Camille Shearouse Dixon passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at her home at the age of 84.  She was born on October 28, 1939, in Savannah, Georgia.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ossie Ellis and Virgie Milligan Shearouse as well as two sisters, Mary Robinson and Shirley Sandt.

Camille was a graduate of Savannah High School and attended Converse College and Wesleyan College where she majored in music.  She was a gifted pianist, and she began as a church musician at the age of thirteen and continued in that role into her eighties. She was a guest soloist with the Savannah Symphony Orchestra at the age of eleven and was a member of a dance band for a brief time early in her career.  Camille served as musician at Bethel Baptist Church in Prosperity for fifteen years and pianist at Wightman United Methodist Church for several years.  Prior to leaving Savannah she served as organist at First Presbyterian Church, Bible Baptist Church and filled in at White Bluff Presbyterian Church. Camille also played for years for the Savannah Theater and Miss Moor's Kindergarten.

She always felt playing the piano was her talent given by God to minister to others, so she always made it a priority in her life.  She taught piano for years so that others, including both her sons, could also share in the happiness of playing music.

She was a devoted Christian, spending time daily in her life and recently the past thirteen plus years at her home in Prosperity studying scripture and talking with God.  She spent a lifetime sharing her beliefs with her family and loved them very much.  She was a fantastic wife and mother.

Camille is survived by her husband, Humbert “Bert” Dixon; sons, Jeffrey Keith Dixon and Matthew Shane Dixon; a granddaughter, Trinity Nicole Dixon and a grandson, Ryder Shane Dixon.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Ben Barnett.  Memorials may be made to Wightman United Methodist Church, PO Box 376, Prosperity, SC 29127.
