Carroll Fulmer

James Carroll Fulmer, 83, of Newberry, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born on November 9, 1927, in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Ira V. and Louise Summer Fulmer. He was a member of the Greatest Generation who proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years having served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He also worked for the S.C. Highway Department and later retired from Central Refrigeration in West Columbia. The love of God and his country was foremost in his life as he was also an active member of Summer Memorial Church where he was a member of the Church Council and Property Committee. He was an active member of the Summer Memorial Lutheran Men in Mission where in 2001 he received the Summer Memorial Lutheran Man of the Year Award and was given a life Membership into the South Carolina Men in Mission. In addition, Mr. Fulmer was a longtime member of the SCLMM Committee of 100.

He was a member of the Newberry Shrine Club where he served on the Board of Directors, a member of Newberry Masonic Lodge #87 AFM from which he received his 50 year pin in 2010. He was a member of the American Legion Post #70 and the 40&8. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, being an avid Gamecock fan and he had a great love of the lake.

Mr. Fulmer is survived his wife, Caroline Miller Fulmer and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn F. Nobles.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011, at Summer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. Stephen F. Mims. Burial with full military honors will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Summer Memorial Lutheran Church, 1609 Milligan Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the charity of one’s choice.
