Catherine McConnell

Catherine Looney McConnell, 88, of Newberry, widow of Edward F. “Flop” McConnell, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at White Oak Manor.

She born on October 24, 1928, in Newberry, to the late Herbert J. Looney, Sr. and Mable Eleazer Looney. She was retired after 50 years from Newberry County Memorial Hospital and was a member of Epting Memorial United Methodist Church. Mrs. McConnell was a member of the Women of the Moose where she was active in the S.C. Moose Association.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandy Horne of Newberry; grandchildren, Tracey H. Wise and Joseph J. (Mary Catherine) Horne; great-grandchildren, Jillian Carlisle, Jacob Mason, Braxton Xavier, Hadley Caroline and Hugh Joseph; sisters-in-law, Grace Harvey, Kitty Abrams, and Judy L. Rochele all of Newberry, and Sarah "Beezy" Looney of Fountain Inn; nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, March 10, 2017, at Wightman United Methodist Church by the Rev. Brian Rainwater. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 140 Stoneridge Drive, Suite 210, Columbia, SC 29210.
