Cecil Jennings Alewine, 90, of Pomaria, widower of Doris Comalander Alewine, died Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Palmetto Health Richland.
Born on February 8, 1928, in Little Mountain, he was a son of the late Boyce S. and Bessie Haltiwanger Alewine. He worked at Cone Mills – Carlisle Plant and later at the Newberry County Recycling Center. Mr. Alewine was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class and had served on the Church Council. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, gardening and playing music and had been a member of the Country Gentleman's Band.
He is survived by a brother, Ray (Jean) Alewine of Whitmire; sisters-in-law, Ann Alewine of Rock Hill and Retha Alewine of Chapin; a number of nieces and nephews and his canine companion, Sandy. He was predeceased by his siblings, Evelyn Harmon, Jessie Roberta Alewine, Martha Ringer, Carroll Alewine, Sr., Claude Alewine, H.B. Alewine, Homer Alewine and Frank Alewine.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brett Collins. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 – 3:30 pm at the church Trinity Life Center. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, PO Box 186, Little Mountain, SC 29075.
Active pallbearers will be Albert Harmon, Kittrell “Kit” Alewine, Marvin “Sam” Alewine, Harold Alewine, Chad Boland, and Mike Alewine.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Sunday School Class of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
