Celia Dodgen

Celia Epting Dodgen, 88, of Newberry, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Newberry Health. 

Born on November 10, 1936, in Silverstreet. She was retired from the City of Newberry. Mrs. Dodgen was a member of West End Baptist Church where she was very active in the life of the church and had served in numerous capacities over the years. She had also served faithfully with the Reedy River Baptist Association. 

She is survived by her husband, James Henry Dodgen; a daughter, Laurie (Steve) Ferguson of Flat Rock, NC; a grandson, Rion James (Clarissa) Ferguson of Fountain Inn and a great-grandson, Braeden Kennington; an extra daughter, Sylvia (Rick) Thackray and extra grandchildren, Tamara Thackray and Natalie Thackray.. Mrs. Dodgen was predeceased by her mother, Myra Epting Gilliam and step-father, Charles Douglas Gilliam. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, February 24, 2025, at West End Baptist Church by the Rev. Kevin Carter. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. 

The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 – 11:00 am at West End Baptist Church.

Active pallbearers will be Rion Ferguson, Rick Thackray, Melvin Epting, Bryan Counts, Parker Bobb and J.C. Counts.
