Charles Alvin “Chuck” Hazel, 75, of Silverstreet, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on February 12, 1942, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Robert Lamar and Grace Close Hazel. He was a 1960 graduate of Newberry High School and enjoyed fellowshipping with his former classmates when the “What Did You Say” group gathered each month. He formerly owned and operated Hazel Plumbing and was a former member of the S.C. National Guard. He was a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church where he was involved with the Lutheran Men in Mission. He participated for a number of years in the Newberry Community Choir, Master's Men and was a former member of the Silverstreet Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Loxie Bowers Hazel; sons, Jamie Hazel of Frankfurt, Germany, Ashley (Jane) Rowe of Prosperity and Scott (Janesca) Hazel of Newberry; daughter, Lori (Michael) Parker of Silverstreet; sisters, Nancy (Michael) Sangaline and Susan Dorton both of Newberry; a brother, Robert “Robin” (Barbara) Hazel of Newberry; grandchildren, Alex Hazel, Sloan Hazel, Patrick Rowe, Ryan Brown and Jackson Parker.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Silverstreet Lutheran Church by the Rev. Harry Crout. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Silverstreet Lutheran Church, 120 Long Street, Silverstreet, SC 29145.
Active pallbearers will be Sloan Hazel, Patrick Rowe, Jay Piersol, Nick Piersol, Josh Piersol, Ethan Siler, Tim Hendrix, and Tony Sangaline.
Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Miller, Cameron Miller, Chris Hazel, Jason Hazel and members of the Lutheran Men in Mission of Silverstreet Lutheran Church.
