Charlie Sanders Cromer, 90, of Pomaria, widower of Mattie Blanche Richardson Cromer, died Friday, April 19, 2013, at his residence.
Born on January 3, 1923, in Pomaria, he was a son of the late George Edward and Eva Sanders Cromer. He was a World War II Army veteran having served in the Tank Destroyer Division. Mr. Cromer retired from Lonestar Industries, a farmer and was the owner of C.S. Cromer Grocery for over 40 years. He was a member of Enoree Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 24. He was an avid sportsman.
He is survived by sons, Charlie “Chick” (Jane) Cromer of Greenville and Michael (Sandy) Cromer of Columbia; a sister, Annie Pearl Ariail of Pomaria; grandchildren, Bryan Douglas Cromer, Allison Lynn Cromer, Kim Pruette and Kelly Daigle and two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Mia Pruette. Mr. Cromer was predeceased by his siblings, Helen Beryl Doolittle, Ida Elizabeth Graham, Ethel Mae Roof, George Earl “Bud” Cromer and William Ray “Hook” Cromer.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, April 21, 2013, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home by the Rev. George Leagan. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Benjie Cromer, Bryan Cromer, Eddie Graham, Bob Ariail, Ronnie Cromer and Dennis Cromer.
