Christine Cook Hutchinson, 96, of Newberry, widow of James Suber Hutchinson, died Thursday, November 17, 2016, at her residence.
Early this morning we lost a beautiful women who was adored by many. Grandma was always smiling and happy. She had a special way of making you feel loved and gave the most heartwarming hugs. To love her was to know her. No matter the name you called her, whether it was mom, sister, aunt, grandma, Oma, neighbor, fellow church member or Christine she was family to you and everyone was blessed to have her in their life for 96 beautiful years. We love you and we can't wait to see you again in our home in heaven.
Born on May 8, 1920, in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Allen and Eunice Halfacre Cook. She was a licensed beautician and the co-owner of Hutchinson Grocery and later a greeter for Wal Mart. Mrs. Hutchinson was an active member of First Baptist Church where she was a former Bible School teacher, went on several mission trips, and a member of Parks Circle Group. She was a member of the Newberry County Council on Aging and the American Legion Post 24 Auxiliary. She was a very loving person and enjoyed spending time in her garden and tending to her fruit trees.
She is survived by sons, Paul Hutchinson of Newberry and Danny (Joan) Hutchinson of Prosperity; a daughter, Dorothy “Dot” (Marshall) Dennis of West Columbia; sisters, Ann Graham of Newberry and Caroline Cockrell of Prosperity; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cook and Peggy Cook both of Prosperity; grandchildren, Angela (Greg) Freeman, Allison Dennis, Ashley Dennis, Max (Nikki) Hutchinson, Tommy Barnette, Sherry (Chip) Lomnick, Jennifer Barnette, Angelica (Eric) Shealy, Joseph Harmon and eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brother, Harold Cook and Max Cook.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 19, 2016, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. Albert Allen. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 am at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1020 Boundary Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or the Newberry County Council on Aging, 1300 Hunt Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
The family would like to thank the staff of Newberry County Memorial Hospital, Springfield Place, Hospice Care of Tri County and Angel Care for their loving care.
Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Brown, Tom Poag, Jeff O'Dell, Johnny Nichols, Heber Long, Jimmy Counts and Billy Brice.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Parks Circle Group and the Newberry County Council on Aging.
