Clara R. Gregory

Clara Ruff Gregory, 87, of West Columbia, widow of Willie Doyle Gregory, died Monday, September 18, 2017, at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.

Born on November 3, 1929, in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late Loamma and Clara Lominick Ruff. Clara grew up in the St. Philip's Community and graduated from Pomaria High School where she enjoyed playing basketball. She attended Newberry College and retired from BellSouth. Mrs. Gregory was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church where she was involved with WELCA.

She is survived by a son, William R. (Tammy) Gregory of West Columbia; a daughter, Sallie G. (David) Hutto of West Columbia; grandchildren, Sadie Gregory and Tyler Loftis and a great-granddaughter, Ainsley Harris. She was predeceased by siblings, Lillian Younginer, John David Ruff, Wilbur Ruff and Walter E. “Jack” Ruff.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 21, 2017, at St. Philip's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Lance Henderson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 pm Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 1500 Sunset Boulevard, West Columbia, SC 29169 or St. Philip's Lutheran Church, 2461 St. Philip's Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Eric Eargle, Gordon Eargle, Hal Gregory, Skipper Livingston, Greg Mayer and Justin Ruff.
