Clarence Strother Hazel, Jr., 94, of Newberry, widower of Gladys Bundrick Hazel, died Sunday, July 25, 2021, at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.

Born on August 18, 1926, in Saluda, he was a son of the late Clarence Strother Hazel, Sr. and Tennie Omeaga Merchant Hazel. He was a Navy veteran and was retired after 45 years of service from Kendall Company – Oakland Plant. Mr. Hazel was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he had served on the church council.

He is survived by sons, Clarence Danny (Josh) Hazel of Lake Wales, FL, Michael Dale (Jodie) Hazel of Austin, TX, and Timothy Dean (Ellen) Hazel of West Columbia; a daughter, Donna Jean Turner of Newberry; grandchildren, Tara Hazel, Travis Hazel, Chris Hazel, Robert Harwood, John Alden Turner, Rachel Turner, Ashley Turner, and Jaden Turner and a great-grandson, Logan Hazel. He was predeceased by a son, Ray Gene Hazel, his sisters, Grace Hazel and Freddie Brice Cromer and brothers, Julius “Buddy” Hazel and John “Shep” Hazel.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2496 SC Highway 773, Pomaria, SC 29126.
