Thomas Claude Sligh, Jr., 88, of Prosperity, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on November 9, 1921, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Thomas Claude Sligh, Sr. and Elizabeth Waters Sligh. He was a World War II Army veteran and the retired owner of Slighs Superette. Mr. Sligh was a member of New Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a former superintendent and the first recipient of the Christian Life Service Award.
Surviving are his wife, Troxel Berley Sligh; a son, Jimmy (Renee) Sligh of Prosperity; daughters, Barbara (Roger) Long of Prosperity and Donna (Cary) Frick of Little Mountain; sisters, Margaret Shealy of Newberry, Audrey Agnew and Marian (Oscar) Bowers both of Prosperity; a brother, Ray Sligh of Clinton; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Sligh, Margaret Sligh, Ola Sligh and Joy Sligh; grandchildren, Eddie (Cindy) Long, Jamie Long, Josh (Niki) Sligh, Derek Frick and Nicole Frick; a great-grandson, Parker Sligh. Mr. Sligh was predeceased by brothers, Buddy Sligh, Charles Sligh, Bobby Sligh and Lewis Sligh.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2010, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Hugh Bickley. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Chapel United Methodist church c/o Julie Lake, 162 Pine Meadow Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
