Claude Eugene Wicker, 83, of Pomaria, died Monday, September 21, 2020 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
Born on November 27, 1936 in Pomaria, he was a son of the late John Bachman and Katie Graham Wicker. He served in the SC National Guard. He worked for North Brothers Insulation and retired from SCE&G. Mr. Wicker was a member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church where he had served on Church Council, was a Youth Advisor for over ten years and was a member of the Lutheran Men in Mission.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Dare Lominick Wicker; sons, Rex (Lisa) Wicker of Wilmington, NC and Doug (Kathy) Wicker of Newberry; a daughter, Amy (Hal) Burgess of Silverstreet; sisters, Benetta Kiker of Conyers, GA, Mary Kinard of Newberry, Willene Stone of Whitmire and Earline Comalander of Chapin; ten grandchildren, three great-granddaughters and a great-grandson due in November. Mr. Wicker was predeceased by siblings, Fay Waites, Yvonne Sternenberg, Hugh Wicker, Harold “Mutt” Wicker, Ray Wicker and Ralph Wicker.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at St. Philip's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the sanctuary at 2:00 pm for viewing. He will also be available for viewing on Tuesday, from 1:00 - 5:00 pm and on Wednesday from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Philip's Lutheran Church Lutheran Men in Mission, 2461 St. Philip's Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108, to the Boy's Farm, PO Box 713, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the Charity of One's Choice.
Active pallbearers will be Shawn Wicker, Logan Burgess, Corey Burgess, Hudson White, Chris Lominick, Rocky Wicker, Tracy Stone and Troy Comalander.
Everyone is reminded of the COVID 19 social distancing requirements and masks will be required in the church.
