Cornelia M. Pitts

Cornelia Mills Pitts, 89, of Newberry, widow of Marion Pitts, died Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on March 27, 1929, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Tillman and Arlie Juanita Long Mills. She was a devoted housewife and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Pitts is survived by a son, Hugh Anthony “Tony” (Nancy) Pitts of Newberry; a daughter, Ginger Pitts (Jimmy) Weir of Newberry; a brother, Benjamin T. “Buck” Mills, Jr. of Newberry; sisters, Beatrice Mills Riddle of Newberry and Barbara Mills (Tom) Riser of Kinards; grandchildren, Jamie Weir, Joshua (Erin) Pitts, Zachary (Brandi) Pitts and Laurel W. (Chuck) Keen. She was predeceased by a son, Marion E. Pitts, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 20, 2018, at Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ken Carter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1160 Trinity Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Zachary (Brandi) Pitts, Joshua (Erin) Pitts, Jamie Weir, Laurel (Chuck) Keen, Ken Riser, Bill Riddle, Tim Bouknight, Mike Brehmer.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Trinity United Methodist Church Choir.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home for their loving care.
