Daniel Hezekiah Hamm III, 71, of Myrtle Beach and formerly of Prosperity, died Monday, December 9, 2013, at Grand Strand Medical Center.
Born on August 31, 1942, in Newberry, he was the son of the late Daniel Hezekiah Hamm, Jr. and Harriett Clarkson Hamm. He was a 1964 graduate of the University of South Carolina and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He was retired from the retail furniture business and was a past president of the Southern Home Furnishings Association. He received the Willis Award which is a retail furniture award of merit. He and his wife were liaisons to the National Furniture Association. Mr. Hamm was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church where he served as a church treasurer and was a member of the Ashbury Bedenbaugh Sunday School.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Joe “Mot” Shell Hamm; a son, Daniel Hezekiah Hamm IV of Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Elizabeth Shell Hamm Jordan of Conway; a sister, Susan Hamm Davis of Charleston and grandchildren, Cameron P. Morrison and Victoria M. Jordan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church by the Rev. James Franklin Shealy, Rev. Jason Antley and Dr. Kenneth E. Smith. Burial will follow in Peak Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 – 6:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Active pallbearers will be David A. Hamm, Rodney E. Epting, Rally M. Seigler, Walter “Wally” P. Richardson, James A. Smith and Ashley W. Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of ATO Fraternity.
