Darwin Crawford

Darwin Lee Crawford, 62, of Newberry, widower of Janice Dickert Crawford, died Saturday, August 29, 2009.

He was born on September 14, 1946 in Salisbury, NC and was reared in St. Stephens. He was a son of the late Claudius H. and Verl Wessinger Crawford. Mr. Crawford was a graduate of Newberry College and retired from Packaging Corporation of America. He was a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church and the Mid-Carolina Country Club.

He is survived by a son, L. Austin Crawford and his wife Dianna of Charleston; his close companion, Monica Williams of Chapin; a sister, Claudia Jo Crawford of Columbia; brothers, Claudius Hugh Crawford II and his wife, Jan of Florida, and Samuel L. Crawford and wife, Terry of Sumter; brothers and sisters in-law; Donald and Phyllis Sheeley of Hartsville, Johnnie and Rachel Dickert of Newberry and Merrie Folk of Newberry; grandsons, Jackson Lee Crawford, and Cole Joseph Crawford.

Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the MUSC Foundation/ Hollings Cancer Center, 18 Bee Street, Charleston, SC 29425.
