David Long

David Houseal Long, Sr., 91 of Newberry, widower of Sophie Way Long, died Saturday, August 5, 2017 at J.F. Hawkins Health Care.

Born on March 25, 1926 in Newberry, he was a son of the late Neely E. and Anner George Long. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World Warr II. He was the retired owner of Long's Philipps 66 in Newberry, a member of Central United Methodist Church, and a member of the Woodman of the World.

He is survived by a son, David H. Long, Jr. and his wife Sudie of Lexington; a daughter, Mary Anna Summer and her husband Joe of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Moezelle Boland of Columbia; two granddaughters, Brittany A. Long of Lexington and Rebecca Summer of Hudson, NC; and a great-grandson, Corley Rhodes Long. He was predeceased by sisters, Marzie Griffith, Gladys Holsenback, and Mary Alice Smith; brothers, Buford Long and Elbert Long; and by a grandson, Billy Summer.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Monday, August 7, 2017 at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. David Surrett. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm Monday in the chapel. The family suggests that those desiring may make memorials to Central United Methodist Church, PO Box 67, Newberry, SC 29108.
