David Rudolph Bedenbaugh, 70, of Prosperity, died Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at Richland Heart Hospital.
Born October 19, 1945, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Wendell Grady and Sara Alice Kinard Bedenbaugh. He was educated in the Newberry County School system and enjoyed baseball,especially pitching. At the age of 14, David began working at the Piggly Wiggly in Prosperity. He also worked at Smokey Lester's Sinclair and Prosperity Manufacturing. In 1965, he began a 6 year tenure with the Army National guard. After 37 years of service, he was retired from Monsanto Textiles, Greenwood, SC. In each endeavor he made many life-long friends.
Mr. Bedenbaugh was a baptized and confirmed member of Colony Lutheran Church and enjoyed attending events with the Friendship Group. Through the years, he served as a Sunday School teacher (8 years of perfect attendance), a member of the church council and as the church treasurer. From 1968-1975, church league softball was dear to his heart.
David was well known for his passion for Gamecock athletics. He enjoyed making wine, sharing it with special people and entering it in the fair where he won many prizes. Through the years, Mr. Bedenbaugh has been well known by many as a people person with a very big heart.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Cheryl R. Bedenbaugh; daughter, Holly B. Wessinger (Michael); daughter-in-law, Michelle B. Bedenbaugh; grandchildren, DavidRudolph "Trey" Bedenbaugh III, Sara Elizabeth Wessinger, TommieLeigh Bedenbaugh, and Devan Lynn Bedenbaugh. He is also survived by siblings, Adella Summer, Juanita Fulmer, and Wendell Bedenbaugh. David was predeceased by a son, David Rudolph “D.J.” Bedenbaugh, Jr. and brother, The Rev. Dr. J. Benjamin “Ben” Bedenbaugh.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM,Friday, August 26, 2016, at McSwain-Evans Chapel. Burial will follow in the Colony Lutheran Church cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Colony Lutheran Church Youth Group, 48 Colony Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
