Dean Rowe

Russell Dean Rowe, 62, of Prosperity, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2024 surrounded by his family.

Born November 23, 1961in Winnsboro, Dean (and his twin sister Jean) were born the youngest of thirteen children to the late James D. “Doc” and Mozelle Rowe of Newberry. 

Dean was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. He loved to make others laugh, especially with a well-crafted joke or karaoke performance. He instantly made you feel comfortable and at home when you were around him. He was always quick to say hello to a stranger, and even quicker to lend a hand to someone in need. 

A veteran of the United States Navy, Dean was an avid volunteer for youth sports in Newberry throughout his life. Nothing brought him more joy than watching the young men he coached become leaders in their communities, with families of their own. Outside of his passion for sports and coaching, Dean loved picking, collecting, and selling eclectic items on the weekends with his wife and siblings.

Dean is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pamela B. Rowe; sons, Ryan (Hannah) Rowe of Newberry and Westley (Sarah) Rowe of Graham, NC; daughter, Lacy (Stacy) Jones of Prosperity; grandchildren, Norah Rowe; Harper, Russell, and Ronnie Rowe; Garrett and Makayla Griffith, Arizona Stockman, and Samantha Rish; brothers, Rudy Rowe of Prosperity, Thomas Rowe of Blythewood, and Paul Rowe of Newberry; sisters, Darlene Layton of Newberry, Susan Leitzey of Pomaria, and Louise Hood of Ridgeway. 

Dean was predeceased by his parents, Doc and Mozelle Rowe; brothers, Earl Rowe and Barry Hood; sisters, Corrine Mack, Patsy Lindler, Jean Billiott, Libby Duncan, and Candy Busby.

A visitation will be held at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. 

A graveside service will be conducted in Rosemont Cemetery on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 11:00 am. All who knew Dean are welcomed to attend and visit with the family at the graveside following the committal service. 

Active pallbearers will be Dean’s nephews.
