Debbie Jean Black Kunkle, 74, of Prosperity, widow of William Thomas “Tommy” Kunkle, passsed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2024, at her home with her daughter by her side.
Born on October 8, 1950, she was the daughter of the late James Albert and Gladys Black. She was a 1968 graduate of Hollywood High School, then attended Columbia Beauty College. Debbie worked for Cedalia Stevens on Cline Street in Newberry, before later working at the Ritz Beauty Shop in Newberry, and Rose Matthew's Wig Shop. After her marriage to Tommy and the birth of her daughter, she worked from home as a full time mom and child care provider.
Debbie is survived by a daughter, Donna Kunkle Kimberlin of Prosperity. She also leaves behind special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, along with her 17 year old fur baby, Sassy.
As an animal lover for all of her life, Debbie always joked that she will be awaited at Rainbow Bridge by 3,467,284 animals of various breeds and species.
To abide by Debbie's wishes, no formal visitation or service will be held at this time. She wished to be cremated, and had specific instructions for her remains. A Celebration of Life/Memorial Service will be held at a later time.
She asked that in lieu of leaving flowers in the care of green thumb-less Donna, that memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Saving Saluda Strays, Corinth Lutheran Church, or the Animal Rescue of one's choice.
The daughter would like to thank Saluda County EMS and Saluda Coroner's Office for their kindness, compassion, and professionalism while responding to their call.
