Dennis McDermott

Dennis J. “Spike” McDermott, 63, of Newberry, died Friday, January 31, 2014, at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home with loved ones by his side.

Born on January 1, 1951 in Christopher, IL, he was the son of Mary Jo Jarvis McDermott and the late Jack C. McDermott. He was a Army veteran and a member of West End Baptist Church and The Lord's Disciples of Newberry.

He is survived in addition to his mother, Mary Jo McDermott of Rollo, MO by his wife, Susan Mills McDermott; sons, Jack McDermott of Springfield, IL, Tim (Renee) McDermott of Whitmire and Tyler McDermott of Newberry; sisters, Debbie (Edward) Walker of FL and Susan (William) Bales of St. James, MO; grandchildren, Caydence McDermott and Benjamin McDermott and a host of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews who will greatly miss him.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 4:00 pm at Serenity Chapel by Rev. Kim Hitch, Pastor Karen O'Donald and Pastor Tim Thompson. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to West End Food Pantry, 620 Main Street, Newberry, SC 29108, the Diabetes Association, 107 Westpark Blvd, Suite 220, Columbia, SC 29210 or the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Dept., 30 East 33 ^rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
