Dick O. Nelson

Dick Orville Nelson, 94, of Prosperity, widower of Irene Susan Nelson, died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born on July 12, 1919 in Bennington, KS, he was a son of the late Earl Henry and Cecil Eldora Sutherlin Nelson. Mr. Nelson was a World War II Navy veteran and was a life-member of the VFW. Mr. Nelson retired from Grumman Aircraft and was also an accomplished cabinet maker. He attended the Chapel by the River.

He is survived by a son, Richard (Pat) Nelson of Prosperity; a daughter, Susan E. (Shannon) Moses of Prosperity; a sister, Colleen Palermo of Properity; his life-partner, Dorothy Funk of Lexington; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Irene Derrick and Mrs. Priscilla Griffith. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 3335 Sunset Blvd, Suite 100, West Columbia, SC 29169.
